Movie chain removes its name from Edgewood Road SW venue
The logos for the AMC Classic Westdale movie theater at 2435 Edgewood Rd. SW in Cedar Rapids — both on its facade and on the sign along Edgewood Road SW, across from Westdale Town Center — were removed last week. The theater has been closed since March 2020, at the start of the coronavirus outbreak in Iowa. In April 2020, Kansas City, Mo.-based AMC said in a statement it would not reopen until there were more movies available to show, but the theater never reopened. Gov. Kim Reynolds declared movie theaters statewide could reopen in May of that year. AMC has not replied to a request for information on its intentions for the Edgewood property.
