Will they or won't they?
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission spent Tuesday afternoon in Cedar Rapids listening to public opinions about the proposed casinos downtown at a public hearing that took nearly three hours.
Dozens of concerned citizens, casino representatives and local politicians spoke, each with their own reasons for either supporting or opposing the possibility of a gaming license being granted to Linn County.
If you didn't have the time to watch our three-hour long livestream, here are six comments made at the hearing that you should hear for yourself:
Dirk Whitebreast, against a gaming license for Linn County
"... what has changed?"
Mayor Ron Corbett, for a gaming license and specifically the Cedar Crossings proposal
"There's two ways to look at things, either you try to do the maximum benefit or the minimum benefit..."
Mark Gallagher, against a gaming license for Linn County
"I really don't want to see this momentum slow or stall..."
Justin Shields, for a gaming license for Linn County
"What a bunch of hogwash..."
Marjorie Fletcher, against a gaming license for Linn County
"... We do not need a business that sucks too much money away from too many people who cannot afford to lose it..."
Barbara Hames-Bryant, for a gaming license and specifically the Wild Rose proposal
"... Because Linn County needs it and deserves it."
