$43 million emissions control contract awarded for Ottumwa Generating Station

The Babcock & Wilcox Co. has been awarded a $43 million contract to engineer and supply a major emissions control systems for Alliant Energy's 743-megawatt Ottumwa Generating Station.
The system includes a spray dry absorber that will control sulfur dioxide emissions the 726-megawatt-coal-fired power plant and a pulse jet fabric baghouse filter that will control particulate emissions.
Engineering work for the project is currently under way and startup is anticipated for May 2014. according to a statement from the Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group Inc., released Friday, Dec. 23.
The contract was awarded by engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell.
Richard Killion, Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group president, said new federal regulations, including the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, have created a need for efficient and effective emissions control technology.
