IOWA CITY – I put something up Tuesday night about Mike Sullivan possibly receiving a severance package after resigning as executive director of the Johnson County joint emergency communication center.
I got the information just before I needed to leave for a school board meeting and didn't have time to do much with it. I'm now posting a copy of the proposed agreement, which you can see below.
Also, on Wednesday morning, I spoke with Mike Wright, the chairman of the communication center policy board. I asked why, if Sullivan resigned, he might be receiving three months pay and benefits.
Wright said the rationale for that would be explained at the May 17 meeting and declined further comment on that.
He did say that he does not know if such separation agreements are standard when a local government employee resigns. He said he believes the decision to resign was Sullivan's alone and he is not aware of anyone encouraging Sullivan to do so.
