CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Senior guards Emily Greiner and Micha Mims scored 27 points apiece and the 11th-ranked Mount Mercy women's basketball team shot 17-of-28 from 3-point range while torching intra-city rival Coe, 80-68, in a non-conference contest on Friday at Eby Fieldhouse.
The Mustangs (11-4) never trailed while snapping a four-game losing streak to the Kohawks (9-3). Mount Mercy led, 41-28, at the half and by as many as 15 late in the game after Coe got within six with 13:27 to go. The team's 3-point shooting display on Friday was topped only by their 18-of-29 performance in a 100-51 victory over Aurora (Ill.) on Nov. 19.
Greiner and Mims did most of the damage from long range. Greiner was 7-of-10 beyond the arc and passed Kerri Carpenter on Mount Mercy's career list. She is third all-time with 212 triples and is now just three points shy of 10th on the school's career scoring chart with 1,269 points. Mims also nailed seven treys Friday night, going 7-of-12 to move into sixth on the career list with 147.
Senior guards Becca Lampe and Laura Lippert chipped in eight and seven points, respectively, for the Mustangs. Sophomore forward Amanda Frost and senior guard Ashley Koch grabbed six rebounds each. Frost also had a game-high five assists and three steals.
Kayla Waskow's 20 points led the Kohawks. She also finished with eight rebounds and five steals. Mackenzie Reed joined her in double figures with 14 points and had four steals. Mary Halvorsen tallied eight points, Megan Hayes a game-high nine boards.
Mount Mercy takes a six-game winning streak into Wednesday's Midwest Collegiate Conference clash with Ashford at 5:30 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center.
