Chase Coley scored 22 points and added nine rebounds as the Iowa Hawkeyes reached 5-0 for the second consecutive season after defeating the Wright State Raiders, 83-77, in the Lone Star Challenge on Thursday in Cedar Park, Texas.
Alexa Kastanek scored 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting from 3-point range. Tania Davis contributed 13 points and three steals and Ally Disterhoft 10 points and six rebounds for Iowa, which was out-rebounded 49-38 and 22-8 on the offensive end.
Iowa, which led 45-30 at halftime, is off to the ninth 5-0 start in program history. They will take on George Washington today at 1:30 p.m.
Kim Demmings recorded 28 points and eight rebounds, while Antania Hayes had 14 and 10 for Wright State (4-2). Richelle van der Keijl added 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Emily Vogelpohl scored 15.
IOWA STATE 83, TEXAS STATE 61
At Cancun, Mexico, the Cyclones (2-1) cruised past Texas State (2-2) in the opening game of the Cancun Challenge.
Sophomore Bryanna Fernstrom tied her career-high with 25 points en route to a double-double with 10 rebounds. Seanna Johnson added her third-straight double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 boards.
Iowa State would grab a 14-12 lead in the first quarter after a 3-pointer by Kidd Blaskowsky and did not give up the lead.
The Cyclones take on Duke today at 12:30 p.m.
