CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Junior guard Emily Greiner led four Mustangs in double digits with a career-high 27 points as the Mount Mercy women's basketball team breezed to a 90-51 victory over Ashford in Midwest Collegiate Conference play on Saturday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Mount Mercy (16-11, 10-3 MCC) has won four straight games and 10 of their last 12. The Mustangs shot 50 percent from the field for the third game in a row and have averaged better than 80 points per game during their winning streak. They were 10-of-21 from 3-point range and 20-of-22 from the free throw line with a season-low seven turnovers against the Saints (4-22, 2-11 MCC).
Greiner, Mount Mercy's leading scorer despite coming off the bench all season, stepped into the starting lineup for injured guard Micha Mims and had the highest point total of her collegiate career. She nailed four treys and was 11-of-12 from the free throw line while handing out five assists for the Mustangs.
Senior guard Kadie Carman scored 14 points in a reserve role on Saturday. She and Greiner were joined in double figures by sophomore guard Lindsey Reis with 11 points and senior forward Tonya Davis with 10 points. Junior guard Ashley Koch added eight points and three assists, freshman forward Amanda Frost eight points and team-high five rebounds.
For Ashford, Jordan Davis had 13 points, four rebounds, and a pair of assists. Lauren Strother tallied 12 points and seven boards, Courtney Olson 10 points and seven rebounds, and Samantha Harr 10 points.
With three regular season games remaining, Mount Mercy is a half-game behind league-leading St. Ambrose (21-4, 10-2 MCC) and Iowa Wesleyan (19-5, 10-2 MCC). Those happen to be the team's next two opponents, beginning with Wednesday's showdown against the 13th-ranked Queen Bees at 5:30 p.m. at Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport. The 20th-ranked Tigers visit Hennessey Recreation Center on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 5:30 p.m.
