CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The season was only a week old, but that's all it took for the women's basketball team to reach its first milestone. Senior guard Emily Greiner became the 26th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club in Mount Mercy's game at Morningside.
Greiner tied a school record with eight 3-pointers during a 29-point night against second-ranked Morningside to go over 1,000 points for her career. She added a career-high 33 points in Mount Mercy's victory over Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on Tuesday and sits at 1,040 points, which ranks 20th in school history.
Greiner continues to move up the charts in career 3-point field goals. With 13 already this season, she has 173 triples in just over three seasons, putting her just five treys shy of fourth place all-time. Karen Smith holds the school record with 260 from 1991-95. She is followed on that list by Jessie Dirks (228/2005-09), Kerri Carpenter (209/1995-99) and recent Hall of Fame inductee Meredith VanderZee (178/2000-04).
Mount Mercy (1-2), which picked up win No. 798 in the history of the program against Culver-Stockton the other night, hosts the Mount Mercy Classic this weekend at Hennessey Recreation Center. Friday's action includes Mount Mercy against Bethel (Ind.) at 5:00 p.m. and Clarke against top-ranked Northwestern at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Mustangs take on two-time defending national champion Northwestern at 2:00 p.m., followed by Clarke and Bethel at 4:00 p.m.
