MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The 11th-ranked Mount Mercy women's basketball team won its fifth straight game on Tuesday, extending a nine-point halftime lead into a 72-50 victory over St. Francis (Ill.) on the final day of the La Quinta Stritch Holiday Classic at Anderson Arena.
The Mustangs (10-4) had an off day from 3-point range, shooting only 8-of-29 from beyond the arc. But the Saints (9-5) were ice cold from long range, connecting on just 2-of-19 treys while finishing 28.6 percent from the floor overall. Mount Mercy forced 19 turnovers and outscored St. Francis at the free throw line, 22-12.
Senior guard Emily Greiner and sophomore forward Amanda Frost were named to the all-tournament team. Each scored 15 points on Tuesday. Senior guard Becca Lampe joined them in double figures with 11 points. Frost and Lampe grabbed eight rebounds apiece. Freshman guard Danielle Herdliska finished with a career-high seven points, four boards and three assists.
The Saints got 17 points and 10 rebounds from Michelle Karr and 10 points from Jen Andes. Ashley Teresiak tallied five points, eight boards and a game-high four assists.
Mount Mercy will look to snap a four-game losing streak to intra-city rival Coe when the Mustangs and Kohawks square off in non-conference action on Friday, Dec. 30, at 5:00 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse in Cedar Rapids.
