FOREST CITY, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's basketball team trailed by a point five minutes into the game, but a 14-0 run over the next three minutes put the 11th-ranked Mustangs ahead for good as they cruised to an 83-58 victory over Waldorf in Midwest Collegiate Conference play on Saturday at Hanson Fieldhouse.
Waldorf (4-11, 2-3 MCC) led, 9-8, with 14:51 to go in the first period before a 20-2 run that included 14 straight points gave Mount Mercy (13-4, 5-0 MCC) control of the game. The Mustangs finished 11-of-21 from 3-point range and outscored the Warriors, 22-3, at the free throw line. Mount Mercy is the only undefeated team in the MCC after its eighth straight win overall and fifth in a row in league play.
Senior guard Emily Greiner moved into ninth place on Mount Mercy's career scoring list with a 20-point effort on Saturday. That included four 3-pointers, giving her 217 with the Mustangs, which is 11 shy of second place all-time. Three teammates joined her in double figures, including sophomore forward Amanda Frost, who finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
Junior guard Brooke Quigley was 10-of-12 from the foul line and scored 13 points and grabbed five boards. Senior guard Becca Lampe knocked down three triples while tallying 11 points and five boards. Senior guard Laura Lippert chipped in seven points and five rebounds, freshman guard Danielle Herdliska six points and five boards and senior guard Ashley Koch six rebounds and four assists.
Goli Tavassoli scored 18 points for the Warriors, all from six 3-pointers. BreeAnn Hageman had 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Allie Davison ended up with seven points, Ellie Markwardt and Mia Chiaro six points apiece.
The second of three straight road games has Mount Mercy at St. Ambrose on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport.
