No. 23 Iowa couldn't hold on to a 10-point lead heading into the fourth quarter as Michigan rallied to post an 82-75 victory over the 23rd-ranked Hawkeyes Thursday night in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Iowa (12-3, 2-1 Big Ten) led at halftime, 43-34, and by as much as 17 at 51-34 in the third quarter.
The Hawkeyes entered the fourth quarter with a 62-52 edge. But Michigan (9-5, 1-2 Big Ten) battled back in the final frame, outscoring the Hawkeyes 30-13 down the stretch to clinch the victory. Katelynn Flaherty's layup with 1:19 left gave the Wolverines a 76-75 lead, a lead they did not relinquish.
Three Hawkeyes scored in double figures, led by Chase Coley's 18 points. Megan Gustafson and Ally Disterhoft each added 14 as the Hawkeyes failed to achieve a 3-0 start in conference play for the first time under Coach Lisa Bluder.
'I give Michigan a lot of credit, they kept fighting,” Bluder said. 'When you're down 17, it takes a lot to battle back.”
In the game, Disterhoft moved into 23rd place on Iowa's all-time scoring list. The Iowa City West graduate now has 1,230 points, and has scored in double-figures in 60 of her 66 career starts with the Hawkeyes.
Flaherty paced the Wolverines with a game-high 24 points. Kelsey Mitchell added 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Madison Ristovski chipped in 11 points as Michigan finally got into the win column in Big Ten play.
