West tops City in boys’ basketball, 75-62
Peter Moe drops 30 to lead Trojans in intracity triumph

IOWA CITY — Peter Moe scored 30 points — 20 in the first half — to lead Iowa City West past Iowa City High, 75-62, in a boys’ basketball game Friday night at City High.
The Trojans (5-0) overcame a sluggish first minute, in which the Little Hawks (3-2) scored the first nine points, and led the rest of the way.
West answered City’s quick start with the next 14 points, and led 18-15 after the first quarter.
Moe made 7 of 8 shots in the first half, including a pair of second-quarter dunks. West took a 39-29 lead into the locker room.
The Little Hawks cut the deficit to four, but West pulled away again and led 58-46 after three quarters.
Jacob Koch added 16 points for the Trojans, Jack McCaffery 14, Kareem Earl 10.
Jamari Newson paced City High with 18 points. TaeVeon Stevens tacked on 14.
The teams meet again Jan. 21 in a game that will count in the Mississippi Valley Conference standings.
