CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Sophomore forward Chad Underwood and junior guard David Campbell combined for half of Mount Mercy's scoring output in a 67-54 win over Waldorf in a Midwest Collegiate Conference men's basketball game on Wednesday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Mustangs (11-5, 4-0 MCC) never trailed and led by as many as 18 points early in the second half, but had to hold off the Warriors (4-9, 0-3 MCC) late to stay unbeaten in the MCC.
Underwood went off for 20 points and grabbed five rebounds for Mount Mercy. Campbell knocked down three 3-pointers during a 14-point night. Senior forward Josh Watznauer added nine points, five boards, and four assists.
Junior forward Sam Kenyi and sophomore guard Jordan Ask scored seven points apiece, while senior guard Jerome Campbell tallied eight assists.
Brad Johnson's 18 points topped the Warriors. Sean Chennault chipped in 11 points, Greg Howell nine.
Mount Mercy faces a tough matchup this weekend, taking on Ashford on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Kehl Arena in Clinton. The Saints (12-5, 3-0 MCC) received votes in the latest NAIA top 25 coaches' poll and are one of three undefeated teams left in the MCC.
