Stokes undergoes ankle surgery

May. 4, 2012 4:36 pm
Former Linn-Mar basketball star Kiah Stokes "is doing great" after undergoing surgery Friday to repair a torn tendon in her right ankle, according to her father.
"She's with her mother (Julie Saddler), on her way home (from Connecticut)," Greg Stokes said Friday afternoon.
Stokes recently completed her freshman season at the University of Connecticut. The Huskies reached the Final Four before falling to Notre Dame.
"She mentioned around the first of the year that she had some nagging pain," Greg Stokes said. "By the end of the season, it was bothering her qute a bit. She grinded it out and played through it."
Stokes will not be allowed to put weight on the ankle for 4-5 weeks. She will be in a soft cast, then a boot.
She is expected to return to normal athletic activity before the start of the 2012-13 academic year.
A McDonald's All-American at Linn-Mar and the 2011 Gazette Female Athlete of the Year, Stokes played 36 games for the Huskies last season, averaging 13.4 minutes. She had 50 blocks, second on the team.
