First the pandemic, then a blizzard.
Last year’s version of Rivalry Saturday was the first casualty in the 17-year history of the girls’ basketball event.
Now, it’s back.
Event director Scot Moenck released the schedule for the 2021 version, set for Nov. 27 at Kirkwood Community College.
It’s an eight-game event, beginning at 9:15 a.m., with the final game scheduled for 8:20 p.m.
Nine of the 16 teams involved are ranked in The Gazette’s preseason list, and those nine teams will compete in the final five games of the day.
Algona Garrigan (Class 1A) and Maquoketa Valley (2A) were state runners-up in 2021. Garrigan, which features junior post Audi Crooks, will play 5A Iowa City West.
Seven teams hail from the Wamac Conference.
