ANAMOSA — Ellah Wagenbach made six 3-pointers. Her ugliest one was a game-breaker.
Wagenbach banked in a 3-pointer to put Class 3A 11th-ranked Mediapolis ahead for good, and the Bullettes outlasted No. 12 Tipton, 57-54, at Rivalry Saturday at Anamosa High School.
Mediapolis (2-0) hit 11 triples, tying a Rivalry Saturday record.
Tipton (3-1) had rallied from a 10-point third-quarter deficit, taking leads of 50-47, 52-50 and 54-52 late in the game.
Each time, the Bullettes had a response. And Wagenbach’s banker was the final one.
Bryn Wright made two free throws to put Mediapolis’ lead to 57-54. The Tigers didn’t get off a shot to tie.
Wagenbach finished with a game-high 22 points. Josie Hutchesen added 13 points for the Bullettes, Amelia Grier 12.
Averie Bolger paced Tipton with 20 points, draining five 3-pointers of her own. Jordyn Schmidt added 11.
The game contained nine lead changes.
