MOUNT VERNON - The Mount Vernon boys' basketball team had a 'very, very special” journey during the 2011-12, capped by a state championship run.
This video recalls that unforgettable season for a team coached by Ed Timm and featuring his son, Jake.
The Mustangs were Wamac Conference champions for the first time since 2003, and got Mount Vernon basketball back on the right track.
Jack Keleher and Jake Timm made the state all-tournament team and Timm was named captain. This was the first state championship by the boys' basketball team since 1974. The 2012 Mustangs finished with a record of 23-4.
This video was produced by Drew Adams, Nick Leopold, Casey Noska, Max Siders and Garrett Welch.
This video is one of a series created by high school students for the Smithsonian Institution's Museum on Main Street exhibit 'Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America,” which will be on display at the First Street Community Center in Mount Vernon, from March 18-April 29, 2018.
