CEDAR RAPIDS — North Linn senior forward Tate Haughenbury has been named Tri-Rivers Conference West Division MVP, the conference announced Saturday.
Haughenbury, who is headed to Kirkwood Community College to play basketball, averaged 16.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and a division-best 5.6 assists per game for the Lynx, who are 22-0 and ranked second in Class 1A.
He is among a quartet of North Linn players named to the West Division first team. The others are junior Ty Pflughaupt, senior Ben Wheatley and sophomore Mason Bechen. Pflughaupt actually led the division in scoring (17.3 points per game) and rebounds (8.3).
Haughenbury, Pflughaupt and Wheatley are unanimous first-team picks, as is the dynamic Alburnett junior duo of Braydon Osborn and Jordan Caton. The Pirates are ranked No. 9 in Class 2A and, like North Linn, play in a district final game Tuesday night.
