CEDAR RAPIDS — Nate Garner has been named the new varsity head boys’ basketball coach at Cedar Rapids Washington, the school has announced.
His hire is pending school board approval.
Garner was interim head coach at periods throughout this past season for the Warriors and has been a head coach for the school at the sub-varsity level. He is a former all-state player at Washington, who played Division I college basketball at Evansville.
"I want to thank God first and foremost for the opportunity to coach at Washington High School,“ Garner said in a press release by the school. ”It is truly a blessing to be in this position, and I am very excited about the future of the Warrior basketball program."
Garner replaces Justin Decker, who stepped down from his position recently.
"Coach Garner has been on the men's basketball coaching staff for a number of years, including last year as the interim head coach,“ Washington Activities Director Grant Schultz said. ”Throughout this time, he's made a positive impact on student-athletes, their families, and the Warrior community, and we look forward to that continuing in the years to come."
