CHICAGO -- Junior forward Sam Kenyi scored a career-high 29 points and senior forward Josh Watznauer was one assist shy of a triple-double as the Mount Mercy men's basketball team routed Roosevelt (Ill.), 101-82, in non-conference action on Thursday night at the Keating Sports Center.
The Mustangs (9-5) dominated from start to finish, never trailing and leading by as many as 26 points midway through the second half. They shot 54.4 percent from the field and outrebounded the Lakers, 49-35. Mount Mercy has reached the 100-point mark three times this season, including twice against Roosevelt. The Mustangs beat the Lakers, 109-84, on Nov. 27 in Cedar Rapids.
Kenyi was a perfect 10-of-10 from the floor and 9-of-10 at the free throw line during his career night. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Watznauer had a huge game, finishing with 15 points, 20 rebounds, and nine assists. His rebound total was the fifth-best in school history.
Sophomore forward Chad Underwood also had a 15-point night and snared six boards. They were joined in double digits by junior guard David Campbell and senior guard Jimmy Scroggins. Campbell scored 14 points, while Scroggins had 12 points and five rebounds in his Mustang debut.
Mark Tometich scored 29 points for the Lakers (3-10). Paul Tometich added 21 points and seven rebounds, Ray Lichter 11 points and five assists.
Mount Mercy takes the court again on Sunday, taking on Clarke in a rescheduled Midwest Collegiate Conference contest at 3:00 p.m. at the Kehl Center in Dubuque. Inclement weather forced the league to postpone the game originally scheduled on Dec. 11.
