CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy shot the ball well from beyond the arc and held a huge advantage on the boards in an 89-56 defeat of Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in men's basketball action on Tuesday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Mustangs (3-0) were 10-of-21 from 3-point range. Four of those came from junior forward Chad Underwood, who scored a game-high 25 points. Senior guard David Campbell added 15 points and five assists, senior forward Sam Kenyi 13 points. Junior guard Markus Cocroft dished out 12 assists, which was only three shy of the single-game school record.
Junior forward Alex Coleman posted his first double-double in a Mustang uniform, totaling 11 points and 11 rebounds. That helped Mount Mercy to a 43-26 rebounding advantage. The Wildcats (1-2) only managed three offensive rebounds on the night.
Jacob Schuster was the lone Wildcat in double figures with 15 points. Dorian Hobbs chipped in nine points, Josh Edwards eight. Dusan Kojic had five rebounds.
Mount Mercy hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Mount Pleasant for the Kiwanis Classic this weekend at Iowa Wesleyan. The Mustangs take on Trinity International (Ill.) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Judson (Ill.) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Ruble Arena.
