MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- Ottawa (Kan.) scored the first two points of the game, but from there it was all Mount Mercy as the Mustang men's basketball team picked up its fifth double-digit win of the season, 69-57, at Ruble Arena.
Mount Mercy has won its first seven games of the season by an average of 17 points. The slimmest margin of victory so far has been an eight-point win over Judson (Ill.) last weekend. The Mustangs are averaging better than 82 points per game, shooting nearly 72 percent from the free throw line and are outrebounding their opponents by 11 boards per outing.
Junior forward Chad Underwood was only 1-of-7 from 3-point range but went 9-of-9 from inside the arc while tallying a game-high 22 points and six steals. Junior forward Alex Coleman added 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Senior forward Sam Kenyi chipped in 12 points and six boards and senior guard David Campbell finished with six assists.
Stephen Feighny led three Braves in double figures with 13 points. Corey Smith had 12 points and six rebounds, Chase Dippel 12 points and three boards.
Mount Mercy goes to Palos Heights, Ill., to face Trinity Christian (Ill.) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs are home against Midland (Neb.) on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 3:00 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center.
