[Men's Basketball] Campbell’s effort powers Mustang win

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Senior guard David Campbell scored a career-high 28 points, leading five Mustangs in double figures in 22nd-ranked Mount Mercy's 96-83 victory over Clarke in Midwest Collegiate Conference men's basketball on Saturday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Campbell tied a career high with six 3-point field goals and was 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. The Mustangs (10-2, 2-1 MCC) were 9-of-22 as a team from 3-point range and shot 58.5 percent from the field overall, which helped them overcome 19 turnovers and an 11-of-22 performance at the free throw line. Mount Mercy did outrebound the Crusaders (8-4, 1-2 MCC), 41-32, and forced 22 Clarke miscues.
Junior forward Alex Coleman added 16 points for the Mustangs. Junior guard Markus Cocroft finished with 15 points, junior foward Chad Underwood 13 and senior forward Sam Kenyi 12. Kenyi also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Underwood had nine boards, Cocroft and Coleman five each. Cocroft also tallied nine assists.
Clarke had four players in double digits, including Charles Nunn with 20 points. Luke Cassedy nailed five 3-pointers during a 19-point afternoon. Kris Brooks and Brian O'Donnell chipped in 10 points apiece. The Crusaders were led on the boards by Nunn, Cassedy, Brooks, Bryan Louff, Mike Schindel and Brock Zins with four rebounds each. Jake Petersen had three assists.
Mount Mercy goes on the road to take on William Woods (Mo.) on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2:00 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.
