CEDAR RAPIDS — Martez Creighton has spent the last three seasons coaching for All Iowa Attack, a girls’ basketball club program accustomed to winning.
He’ll try to spin some of that success into Cedar Rapids Jefferson, which hasn’t experienced a winning season in 15 years.
Creighton was named as the J-Hawks’ head varsity coach (pending board approval) Friday afternoon in a release by the school.
“I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to lead these young ladies,” Creighton said in the release. “I’m looking forward to working with the girls and helping them achieve their goals on and off the court.”
Before his stint with Attack, Creighton was an assistant with the men’s program at Mount Mercy University from 2011 through 2020, then coached at North Iowa Area Community College for three seasons after that.
He fills the position vacated by Matt Hoeppner, who resigned to take the job at Clear Creek Amana.
Creighton was billed as “a dedicated mentor with a passion for helping athletes grow both on and off the court,” according to the release.
Jefferson was 8-14 last season and returns three of its top five scorers, led by junior Lillie Spicer, who averaged 12.6 and 7.4 rebounds per game.
