CEDAR RAPIDS - A lot of drop outs in this week’s Iowa High School Athletic Association boys basketball poll.
Seven schools fell out of the top 10, at least one in each of the four classes.
Class 4A was hardest hit, so to speak, with Des Moines Roosevelt, Pleasant Valley and Council Bluffs Lincoln dropped out. They were eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.
Cedar Falls (9-0), Waukee Northwest (8-1) and West Des Moines Dowling (10-0) remain in the top three spots. Linn-Mar (6-2) joins the top 10 at No. 10, coming in with Bettendorf at seventh and Urbandale at ninth.
Quite a bit of topsy-turvyness in 3A, though Huxley Ballard (9-0) and Clear Lake (7-0) solid in the top two spots. Solon (10-0) inched up from seventh to sixth, with Cedar Rapids Xavier (6-3) dropping from third to seventh after a two-loss week.
Fellow Mississippi Valley Conference school Dubuque Wahlert (6-3) went from 10th to eighth. Nevada and Knoxville fell out of the 3A rankings.
Orange City Unity Christian (9-1) remains the number one team in Class 2A. Iowa City Regina (8-1) inched forward from third to second, followed by Western Christian (8-1), Carroll Kuemper (7-3) and Tri-Center (7-0).
Regina’s lone loss came to Solon. Union Community (10-1) and Cascade (9-2) are ninth and 10th in 2A.
Cherokee dropped out of the poll.
Fort Dodge St. Edmond (7-1) remains atop the Class 1A rankings. Bellevue Marquette (9-1) and Bellevue (9-1) are side by side at seventh and eighth, respectively.
