MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- Sam Kenyi entered Mount Mercy's starting lineup last week and made quite a splash in a pair of Mustang wins. The junior forward averaged 21 points and 5.5 rebounds per game to earn Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honors for Jan. 3.
Kenyi was nearly perfect from the field and free throw line, connecting on 93 percent of his shots from the floor (14-of-15) and 82 percent of his foul shots (14-of-17). He was 10-of-10 from the field and 9-of-10 at the free throw line while scoring a career-high 29 points at Roosevelt (Ill.), then notched 13 points in a league win at Clarke.
The Mustangs (10-5, 3-0 MCC) look to stay unbeaten in the MCC when they host Waldorf (4-8, 0-2 MCC) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center. Mount Mercy goes to Clinton on Saturday to face Ashford (11-5, 2-0 MCC) at 3:00 p.m. at Kehl Arena.
