Iowa's season ends in shootout

EUGENE, Ore. -- Iowa's men's basketball season ended Sunday in a shootout, with the Hawkeyes losing 108-97 in the second round of the NIT..
After holding Oregon to 5-of-15 shooting in the first half, the Hawkeyes' defense disintegrated for the game's final 30 minutes. Oregon hit 30 of its next 44 shots.
Iowa (18-17) finishes with its first winning record since 2007.
Devyn Marble led Iowa with 31 points and sank his first seven 3-pointers. Aaron White added 22 for Iowa.

Iowa and Oregon traded baskets at a dizzying pace in the first half of their NIT second-round game Sunday at Matthew Knight Arena. Iowa survived the Ducks' surge to lead 51-47 at halftime.
The Hawkeyes shot 54 percent from the field and had 13 assists on their 20 baskets. Iowa built a 15-point lead less than 10 minutes into the game with astounding precision from 3-point range. The Hawkeyes hit 7-of-8 3-pointers and 12-of-17 from the floor to take a 31-16 lead.
The Ducks withstood Iowa's early barrage and put together their own surge to cut the lead to four at the end of the half. Backup center Olu Ashaolu battered the Hawkeyes inside with 18 points.
Iowa guard Devyn Marble scored 19 points, hitting 5-for-5 from 3-point range and 6-of-7 overall. Marble's career high is 21, which he scored at Iowa State on Dec. 9.
Melsahn Basabe scored 11 in the first half and had five rebounds. Bryce Catrwright scored six points, had eight assists and only one turnover. He also had two steals.
Iowa hit 8-of-12 from 3-point range and 20-of-37 from the field. Oregon was 17-of-34 and outscored Iowa 24-16 with points in the paint and 15-8 on fast-break opportunities.
Iowa also doubled up Oregon in fouls: 10 to 5. Zach McCabe, Matt Gatens and Melsahn Basabe each had two fouls.
