LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Iowa played its first true road game of the season last night, and the 19th-ranked Hawkeyes lost to No. 7 Louisville, 86-52, in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at the KFC Yum! Center.
Louisville, which ended Iowa's season last March in the NCAA tournament, 83-53, remained unbeaten in eight games. The Hawkeyes slipped to 6-2.
'Try to learn from it,” Iowa Coach Lisa Bluder said. 'You have to.
'There is a lot of season left, a lot of games left. This game is worth it if it helps us be better in March. I think we will learn for it. We have good kids and we have smart kids and they'll bounce back.”
Senior center Bethany Doolittle led Iowa with 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots.
Ally Disterhoft scored nine points - although she made just 3 of 14 shots - and contributed eight rebounds. Samantha Logic had a stat line of eight points, eight rebounds and three assists.
Iowa shot a season-low 30.4 percent from the field (21 of 69) and made just 1 of 17 3-point shots.
'Shots just weren't falling for us,” Bluder said. 'We weren't making layups, we weren't making free throws. We're a good free throw shooting team and we couldn't even make free throws tonight (9 of 17). That's obviously disappointing.”
Iowa plays its next two games at home, beginning with a 2 p.m. game Sunday against. It hosts Iowa State next Thursday.
