Quarterfinal round wraps up with a Tri-Rivers showdown between Springville and North Linn

DES MOINES — A look at Wednesday’s games at the girls’ state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena:
No. 10 Cascade (20-4) vs. No. 3 Central Lyon (22-2)
CLASS 2A QUARTERFINAL
Time: 11:45 a.m.
Coaches: Mike Sconsa owns a 349-72 record in 17 seasons at Cascade. Heather Grafing is 220-112 in 14 seasons overall, 111-50 in seven years at Central Lyon.
Top players: Ally Hoffman (5-7, sr.) paces Cascade at 13.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Alyssa Lux (5-6, jr.) adds 11.4 points per contest. For Central Lyon, Addison Klosterbuer (5-11, jr.) leads the way at 13.9 points per game. Desta Hoogendoorn (6-0, soph.) adds 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Tournament history: Cascade is making its 10th trip, its eighth in the last 10 years. The Cougars won a 2A state title in 2018. Central Lyon has qualified for the third time, the first since 2015. The Lions were 1A state champions in 2013.

No. 3 Springville (23-1) vs. No. 6 North Linn (22-2)
CLASS 1A QUARTERFINAL
Time: 6:45 p.m.
Coaches: Christina Zaruba has compiled a 105-23 record in five years at Springville. Brian Wheatley is in his 18th year at North Linn and owns a 347-86 ledger.
Top players: Lauren Wilson (6-0, sr.) is a do-it-all player for Springville, averaging 24.9 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.3 blocks per game. Morgan Nachazel (5-7, sr.) adds 12.2 ppg. North Linn is led by the backcourt duo of Kamryn Kurt (5-6, soph.) and Macy Boge (5-8, soph.) at 17.6 and 13.7 points per game, respectively.
Tournament history: Both of these Tri-Rivers representatives are tournament regulars. Springville is a four-time state champion, most recently in 2018, and has qualified for the ninth time, all in the last 15 years. North Linn is making its eighth appearance, its seventh in the last nine years. The Lynx were 2A state champions in 2020.
