The quarterfinal round of the 2022 Iowa high school girls’ state basketball tournament wrapped up Wednesday with six games at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, two in Class 2A and all four in Class 1A.

CLASS 2A QUARTERFINALS
No. 2 Denver 58, No. 14 Underwood 51
Underdog Underwood (22-3) led by five in the second quarter and stayed in the game throughout, but second-ranked Denver (24-2) was too much in the end, grabbing 13 offensive rebounds and scoring 12 second-chance points.
Sydney Eggena scored 18 points for the Cyclones and Reese Johnson had 12 points, pulled down 16 boards, distributed four assists and tallied four steals. Kendra Kuck had 13 points for the Eagles.
No. 3 Central Lyon 42, No. 10 Cascade 40
Desta Hoogendoorn made a shot in the lane at the buzzer to send Central Lyon (23-2) to the 2A semifinals.
Cascade (20-5) rallied from a 14-point first-half deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter. The Cougars tied it at 40 with 49 seconds left, then the Lions held for the last, game-winning shot. Cascade’s Ally Hoffman scored a game-high 16 points. Hoogendoorn had 15, Addison Klosterbuer 14 for Central Lyon.

CLASS 1A QUARTERFINALS
No. 1 Newell-Fonda 77, No. 8 North Mahaska 44
Top-ranked Newell-Fonda (24-1) came up with 29 steals and scored 46 points off 40 North Mahaska turnovers.
Macy Sievers totaled 16 points and six steals and Kierra Jungers had 15 points and five steals. Addie Schilling led the Warhawks (23-2) with 14 points.
No. 4 Marcus MMCRU 50, No. 5 Exira-EHK 39
Emily Dreckman scored 18 points and blocked three shots to help MMCRU (25-1) reach the semifinals.
Quinn Grubbs and Mollie Rasmussen both scored 11 for Exira-EHK (22-2), which struggled from 3-point range (4 of 32).
No. 2 Algona Garrigan 77, No. 7 Burlington Notre Dame 42
Audi Crooks totaled 32 points on 15-for-18 shooting and seven rebounds and Molly Joyce had 25 points and six assists as Garrigan (23-3) handed Notre Dame (23-1) its first loss.
Abby Korschgen led the Nikes with 13 points.
No. 6 North Linn 58, No. 3 Springville 56
North Linn (23-2) won the rubber match between Tri-Rivers West rivals to close out the state quarterfinals. The Lynx ended the third quarter on an 11-3 run to take a 40-36 lead and extended it to as much as nine in the final period.
Kamryn Kurt led four North Linn players in double figures with 17 points. Molly Boge scored 15, Ellie Flanagan had 11 and Chloe VanEtten contributed 10. The Lynx were 17 of 22 from the line.
Lauren Wilson had 14 points, 11 rebounds, six blocks and three steals for Springville (23-2). Morgan Nachazel also scored 14 points.
