CLASS 1A QUARTERFINALS
No. 4 Lake Mills 39, No. 5 Danville 22
Lake Mills earned its first state tournament victory in its fifth overall and third straight appearance.
Danville (23-3) shot 21.1 percent, including 0 for 17 from 3-point range against Lake Mills’ zone defense. The Bulldogs (25-1) struggled at times offensively, too, but started the second half on a 10-1 run to pull away from an 11-11 tie.
Bennett Berger scored 13 points for Lake Mills and Seth Hermanson added 10 off the bench. Caiden Gourley led the Bears with 10.
No. 1 Grand View Christian 64, No. 8 Bellevue 63 (OT)
Noah John made 1 of 2 free throws with 0.2 seconds left and top-ranked, unbeaten Grand View Christian survived an upset scare from Bellevue.
The Comets (13-13) began the postseason with a losing record and nearly continued their Cinderella run to the semifinals. They rallied from 14 down to force overtime when Colby Sieverding swished an off-balance 3-pointer with 11 seconds left.
Bellevue took one-point leads three times in the extra period. Siverding scored over 6-foot-11 Daniel Tobiloba to make it 63-62 with 35 seconds left, but Tobiloba tied it with a free throw and John won it after grabbing an offensive rebound with 0.2 seconds to go.
Tobiloba had nine points, 19 rebounds and nine blocks. Josh Baucum led Grand View Christian (25-0) with 14 points and Caleb Parlee had 13. Jackson Mueller scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for Bellevue. He was 4 of 22 from 3-point range entering the game, but 4 of 8 Monday. Sieverding added 16 points, Jensen Wedeking 15 and 13 boards.
No. 2 North Linn 89, No. 7 North Mahaska 43
North Linn (25-1) cruised to its sixth straight semifinal appearance in its sixth straight state tournament appearance.
North Mahaska (20-6) scored the game’s first four points, but it was quickly all Lynx from there. North Linn led 29-9 after the first quarter and 56-15 at halftime.
Four Lynx were in double-figures scoring in the first half alone, led by Tate Haughenbury, who had 16 points, including three dunks. He finished with 18 and didn’t miss a shot (8-for-8 field goals, 2-for-2 free throws). CLASS 2A QUARTERFINALS
No. 1 Central Lyon 68, No. 8 Red Oak 34
Mason Gerleman scored 12 first-quarter points and Central Lyon took a 26-13 lead, showing no signs of nerves in its first state tournament game. The Lions (23-2) led 37-22 at halftime and opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run to put away any hope of a Red Oak comeback.
Gerleman finished with a game-high 18 points, hitting 5 of 7 field goals and all seven of his free throws. Zach Lutmer added 16 points and seven rebounds and Andrew Austin scored 13.
Max DeVries led the Tigers (18-8), who made it to state for the first time since 1993, with 10 points. Red Oak shot just 18.5 percent from the field.
