CEDAR RAPIDS — Three Metro boys’ basketball teams are ranked in the top five of their respective classes in this week’s Iowa High School Athletic Association poll.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy remains No. 1 in Class 4A. The Cougars (19-0) passed a big test last week, winning three games.
Kennedy edged Iowa City West, 55-48, knocked off Iowa City High, 76-44, and won at fourth-ranked West Des Moines Valley, 64-50. The Cougars trailed in the fourth quarter of that game until taking over late.
Valley (15-5) played without standout guard and leading scorer Curtis Stinson, who was injured in his team’s game the night before. Kennedy has another big game Tuesday night at Cedar Rapids Xavier.
The Saints (14-5) are ranked fourth in Class 3A this week, one spot ahead of Marion (16-4). Bondurant-Farrar (19-0) is the lone unbeaten in 3A and continues to be top ranked.
Alburnett (19-3) picked up a big win last week over Gladbrook-Reinbeck to end the regular season and rejoins the rankings in Class 2A at ninth. Central Lyon (18-1) continues atop that class.
Grand View Christian (20-0) and North Linn (20-0) remain a solid 1-2 in Class 1A. Gladbrook-Reinbeck (19-2) is third.
