Girls
5A No. 11 Iowa City West 63, Linn-Mar 47
Lauren Zacharias has proven she can hurt the opposition in a variety of ways.
The Iowa City West senior had all facets of her offensive game working Friday night with a season-high 21 points as the Class 5A No. 11 Women of Troy defeated Linn-Mar, 63-47, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls' basketball game at West High School.
Zacharias got the scoring started for West (7-2, 4-1 MVC) with 3-point baskets on three consecutive first-quarter possessions.
4A No. 1 Marion 66, 4A No. 10 DeWitt Central 42
Second-quarter deficits are a foreign concept to the Marion Indians.
When one came along Friday, they were neither surprised nor scared.
Down 19-18 midway through the second period, Class 4A top-ranked Marion responded with a 26-4 blitz and pulled away from No. 10 DeWitt Central, 66-42, in a Wamac Conference girls' basketball game at Marion High School.

4A No. 5 Iowa City West 57, Linn-Mar 55
The Iowa City West boys' basketball team is the last bunch to be fooled by a somewhat pedestrian Linn-Mar win-loss record.
Just three weeks removed from a double-digit defeat at Linn-Mar, the Class 4A fifth-ranked Trojans got the better of the Lions in the rematch, 57-55, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game Friday night at West High School.
Patrick McCaffery led all scorers with 22 points, including a basket and three free throws in two possessions that capped an 8-0 surge and gave West a 53-50 lead with 3:38 left.
4A No. 8 Cedar Falls 71, Cedar Rapids Xavier 60
This was better than the first time. A lot better.
But one of the top teams in Class 4A proved just too good again Friday night for the Xavier Saints.
Iowa football recruit Jack Campbell had 25 points, and eighth-ranked Cedar Falls simply overpowered them, 71-60, at Ron Thillen Gym. The Tigers shot 60 percent from the field, with most of their 30 makes coming from 5 feet and in.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy 79, 3A No. 5 Dubuque Wahlert 39
The Cougars rolled over the No. 5 team in Class 3A Friday night in Cedar Rapids. Jack Wetzel had 22 points for Kennedy (4-3).
Western Dubuque 69, Cedar Rapids Washington 52
The Bobcats won the fourth quarter 22-9 in Cedar Rapids.
Jamar Thurmon led Washington (3-5) with 12 points.
Waterloo East 62, Iowa City High 59
Trailing by 12 at half, 33-21, the Little Hawks came back and took the lead in the fourth quarter, 50-43, but couldn't hold on.
Carter Westlake had 17 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead City (2-6).
Bellevue Marquette 59, Cedar Valley Christian 40
Levi Telecky led Cedar Valley Christian (0-12) with 24 points Friday night in Springville.
