5A No. 1 Iowa City High 77, Linn-Mar 40
Aubrey Joens tallied 27 points, Rose Nkumu tacked on 22 and Class 5A top-ranked Iowa City High cooled the Lions, 77-40, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls' basketball game Tuesday night at Linn-Mar High School.
The Little Hawks (12-0, 8-0) opened a substantial gap on the scoreboard with a 13-0 run after Linn-Mar had tied the game, 8-8.
It was 32-14 at halftime, and the outcome was never in doubt.

4A No. 6 Cedar Rapids Xavier 58, Waterloo West 39
The sixth-ranked Saints snapped a four-game losing streak Tuesday night, beating Waterloo West, 58-39, in Waterloo.
Caitlynn Daniels had 18 points, Emily Jasper had 17 and Libby Arnold 14 for Xavier (9-5).
NaTracia Ceaser led West (7-5) with 10 points.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy 46, Dubuque Senior 41
Up 37-35 with six minutes to play, the Cougars played tough defense down the stretch to win Tuesday night at Kennedy High School.
Sadie Powell had 16 points to pace Kennedy (4-9). Senior fell to 6-8.
5A No. 10 Cedar Rapids Washington 66, Dubuque Hempstead 58
The Warriors won the final quarter, 18-9, to prevail at Hempstead.
Caitlin Riley had 19 points and eight rebounds and Sammy Mia had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Washington (12-1). Sydney Mitvalsky added 14 points.
Hempstead (4-10) was led by Kaylie Springer with 19 points and Madison Fleckenstein with 18 points.
5A No. 11 Iowa City West 79, Waterloo East 32
The 11th-ranked Women of Troy raced out to a 24-5 lead after one quarter Tuesday night in Waterloo.
Audrey Koch had 31 points and Lauren Zacharias added 17 points for West (9-3).
Kerris Roberts had 12 points for East (2-9).
2A No. 14 Wilton 49, Iowa City Regina 39
The Regals closed the gap on the 14th-ranked Beavers, but not by enough.
Wilton (14-1) beat Regina, 52-34, back on Nov. 30.
Regina (5-9) was closer, but only took two free throws and missed both Tuesday night. Elly Gahan led the scoring with 10 points.

Patrick McCaffery scored 35 points to lead Iowa City West (9-2, 7-2 MVC Valley) to a win at home.
Evan Brauns added 18 points, 16 in the second half, as West eventually pulled away in what was a one-point game after three quarters. East (7-4, 5-3 MVC Mississippi) hung around thanks in large part to Tyrese Nickelson, who also had 35 points.
Linn-Mar 59, Iowa City High 48
The Lions won their fourth straight game Tuesday night in Iowa City.
Trey Hutcheson had 28 points to pace Linn-Mar (7-4). Byron Benton led City High (3-8) with 15 points.
Dubuque Hempstead 67, Cedar Rapids Washington 59
Hempstead won the final quarter, 23-13, Tuesday night at Washington High School.
Michael Duax scored 33 points to pace Hempstead (5-7). Mick McCurry led Washington (6-6) with 25 points.
Waterloo West 63, Cedar Rapids Xavier 59
Jake Beckmann scored 32 points, including hitting eight 3-pointers, but the Saints fell in Cedar Rapids.
Davis Wagner added 13 points for Xavier (4-7).
Caleb Haag led West (5-6) with 24 points. Daquavian Walker added 17 points.
4A No. 8 Cedar Falls 58, Iowa City Liberty 50
The eighth-ranked Tigers had their paws full Tuesday night in North Liberty.
Liberty (5-7) led 26-24 at halftime. Ethan O'Donnell led the Lightning with 13 points.
Mason Abbas had 19 points to pace Cedar Falls (9-2).

The J-Hawks held off the Bobcats shot-for-shot in the fourth quarter in Epworth.
Ozzie Meiborg had 15 points and Willie Guy added 14 points for Jefferson (5-6).
