Girls
Linn-Mar 43, 4A No. 6 Cedar Rapids Xavier 40
Macey Miller is the lone senior on the Linn-Mar girls' basketball team.
She did what a senior leader is expected to do in a tight game Friday night against Cedar Rapids Xavier.
Miller scored a team-high 14 points, including 10 in a tense final quarter as the Lions upset the Saints, 43-40, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at the Linn-Mar gym.
The Lions (6-7, 4-3) didn't get much offense in a 46-24 loss to the Saints on Dec. 7 at Xavier, but Coach Nate Sanderson's team did a solid job of working the ball around against the Saints on offense. Defensively, the Lions made it difficult for the Saints to get into any real flow.
Linn-Mar built an eight-point lead in the third quarter but Xavier rallied behind junior Caitlynn Daniels to tie the game at 29 after three quarters, Daniels hit a 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter and it looked like the Saints might be on their way.
Miller had other ideas. She countered with a trey of her own to tie the game and a basket from Keegan Krejca gave Linn-Mar the lead for good. Xavier didn't score another field goal the remainder of the fourth quarter, netting just eight foul shots.
Krejca was a beast on the boards, hauling down 14 rebounds to go with 11 points. Freshman Alexis Beier added 12 points. Daniels led the Saints (8-5, 4-3) with 16 points. Emily Jasper added 10.

The Indians (12-0 overall, 11-0 Wamac Conference) held Mount Vernon to those three precious field goals in 29 attempts, including 0-for-13 in the second half.

Clutch players are gonna be clutch.
There was zero hesitation from Logan Wolf in the final minute of his team's game Friday night against Iowa City West. His defender backed off him at the top of the arc, his team was down a point and needed something.
Despite not making much of anything prior to that, 3 of 16 shots, it was fire away ... a swish and eventually a Cedar Falls victory.
Linn-Mar 54, Cedar Rapids Xavier 47
As Trey Hutcheson struggled in the first half of Friday's Mississippi Valley Conference game with Cedar Rapids Xavier, scoring just a single point, Hayden Passmore was a presence inside on offense and defense as the Lions trailed 23-20 at the break.
The second half belonged to both Lion big men as they rallied to build an 11-point lead before holding on for a 54-47 win before a large crowd on Hall of Fame Night at the Linn-Mar gym.
