Regina (2A), North Linn (1A) play semifinal games in the afternoon, then Mount Vernon faces Dubuque Wahlert for the 3A title at 8 p.m.

DES MOINES — Capsules for Friday’s games involving area teams at the Iowa high school girls' state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.
Class 2A semifinals
No. 2 IOWA CITY REGINA (24-1) vs. No. 3 HINTON (24-0)
Time: 11:45 a.m.
Top players: Truman State commit Morgan Miller (5-6, sr.) has become the all-time leading scorer at Regina with 1,600-plus points and is hitting at a 20.3-point clip this season. She also provides 4.5 assists and 4.6 steals per game. Addie McLaughlin (5-5, fr.) adds 17.1 points per game. Sydney Doeschot (5-7, jr.) leads a youthful Hinton squad at 20.0 points, 5.8 assists and 4.5 steals per game. Addison Glass (5-10, soph.) adds 12.4 points per contest.
Coaches: Mary Rogers is in her sixth year as Regina head coach and owns a record of 111-32. Matt Leary has compiled a 310-101 mark in 18 years at Hinton, and is 351-178 in 23 seasons overall.
How they got here: Regina reached the semifinals for the first time since 2017 with a 53-47 win over No. 8 Maquoketa Valley. Hinton rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to beat No. 6 Rock Valley, 53-47.

Class 1A semifinals
No. 2 NORTH LINN (24-1) vs. No. 3 NEWELL-FONDA (21-4)
Time: 3:15 p.m.
Top players: North Linn’s Molly Boge (5-8, sr.) is one of the state’s top small-school guards, averaging 19.9 points, 6.1 assists and 5.1 steals per game. Emilee Beuter (5-10, sr.) adds 14.9 points and 7.9 boards per game. Kinzee Hinders (6-1, sr.) is Newell-Fonda’s leader in all major categories, averaging 19.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.9 steals per game. Ellie Sievers (5-7, fr.) adds 14.1 points per game.
Coaches: Brian Wheatley is in his 21st year at North Linn and owns a record of 421-91. Dick Jungers is in his 23rd year at Newell-Fonda and has assembled a record of 512-81.
How they got here: Reigning 1A champion North Linn got past No. 8 Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the quarterfinals, 33-29. Newell-Fonda forced 36 turnovers and ousted No. 7 Springville, 60-32.

Class 3A championship
No. 1 MOUNT VERNON (25-1) vs. No. 2 DUBUQUE WAHLERT (21-4)

Top players:
Evansville signee Sydney Huber (6-0, sr.) leads balanced Mount Vernon in scoring at 15.4 points per game, and post Chloe Meester (6-3, sr.) adds 14.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest. Maryville signee Claire Lueken (5-11, sr.) leads Wahlert. She averages 21.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Ruth Tauber (5-6, jr.) adds 10.0 ppg.
Coaches: Nate Sanderson is 273-219 in 23 years of coaching, including 74-24 in four seasons at Mount Vernon. Kris Spiegler has coached at Wahlert for 18 seasons and owns a 221-218 mark there. She is 278-321 overall.
How they got here: Mount Vernon throttled West Marshall in the first round, 75-19, then edged No. 4 Estherville-Lincoln Central in the semifinals, 35-34. Wahlert was a 51-46 quarterfinal winner over No. 12 Spirit Lake, then defeated No. 3 Williamsburg in the semifinals, 52-34.
