DES MOINES — Capsules for Wednesday’s games involving area teams at the Iowa high school girls' state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.
Class 1A quarterfinals
No. 1 North Linn (23-1) vs. No. 9 Montezuma (20-4)
Time: 1:30 p.m.
Top players: North Linn is fueled by its guards. Kamryn Kurt (5-6, sr.) leads the Lynx at 18.6 points and 5.6 assists per game. Macy Boge (5-8, sr.) adds 16.1 points and 4.3 steals per game, and Molly Boge (5-8, jr.) scores 13.0 points per game. Ellen Cook (5-5, jr.) leads Montezuma at 13.8 points per game, and Shiressa Wetering (5-11, jr.) adds 13.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest.
Coaches: Brian Wheatley has compiled a 394-90 record in 20 seasons at North Linn. Montezuma’s Janel Burgess is 123-22 in seven years.
Tournament history: North Linn has qualified for the 11th time, its sixth consecutive and ninth in the last 11 years. The Lynx claimed the 2A title in 2020. Montezuma is making its 16th appearance, its fifth under Burgess. The Bravettes were six-player champions in 1969 and 1970.
