Iowa girls’ state basketball 2024: A closer look at Tuesday’s games
Solon (3A), Clear Creek Amana (4A), Cascade (2A) face quarterfinal challenges

DES MOINES — Capsules for Tuesday’s games involving area teams at the Iowa high school girls' state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.
Class 3A quarterfinals
No. 3 Solon (21-3) vs. No. 7 Dubuque Wahlert (19-5)
Time: 10 a.m.
Top players: Iowa recruit Callie Levin (5-9, sr.) is averaging 22.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 5.1 steals per game. Hailey Miller (5-7, sr.) adds 13.5 ppg. Claire Lueken (5-11, jr.) leads Wahlert in points (17.1 per game) and rebounds (7.1); Maria Freed (5-7, sr.) adds 11.8 ppg.
Coaches: Jamie Smith has compiled an 89-49 record in six seasons at Solon and is 219-140 in 17 years overall. Kris Spiegler owns a 200-208 mark in 18 years at Wahlert, and is 252-316 overall.
Tournament history: Solon is making its ninth appearance, its second straight. The Spartans were 2A champions in 1994, 1997 and 1998. Wahlert is in the field for the 10th time, the third in the past four years.

Class 4A quarterfinals
No. 1 Clear Creek Amana (23-0) vs. Gilbert (15-9)
Time: 11:45 a.m.
Top players: Averie Lower (5-11, soph.) averages 17.6 points per game, shooting 59 percent from the field, 49 percent from distance and 87 percent from the line. Ava Locklear (5-11, sr.) adds 11.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Ella Henningson (5-10, jr.) leads a balanced Gilbert outfit at 13.2 points and 8.5 boards per game.
Coaches: P.J. Sweeney has coached 10 years at Clear Creek Amana and owns a record of 149-74. Mike Frisk is 89-48 in six years at Gilbert, 255-116 in 16 years overall.
Tournament history: CCA is making its third appearance, all since 2020. Gilbert is here for the sixth time, its first since 2020.

Class 2A quarterfinals
No. 11 Cascade (17-6) vs. No. 1 Dike-New Hartford (23-2)
Time: 6:45 p.m.
Top players: Molly Roling (5-8, jr.) paces Cascade at 13.3 points per game, and Addison Frake (5-10, soph.) adds 11.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. DNH is fueled by the Petersen twins. Payton (5-11) averages 17.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.4 steals per game. Jadyn (5-8) adds 12.3 points and 7.2 boards per game.
Coaches: Mike Sconsa owns a 385-82 record in 19 seasons, all at Cascade. Bruce Dall is 539-144 in 29 seasons, including 262-53 in 13 years at DNH.
Tournament history: Cascade has qualified for the 11th time, the ninth in the past 12 years. The Cougars were 2A champions in 2018. Three-time defending champion Dike-New Hartford is making its seventh straight appearance. Dike won a six-player title in 1988.
