Iowa concerned with Oregon's E.J. Singler; what's up next if Iowa wins?
Mar. 17, 2012 9:07 pm
EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon forward E.J. Singler is a model of consistency for the Ducks, scoring in double figures in 26 of his team's 32 games this year.
Singler, a 6-foot-6 junior, averages 13 points a game and leads the Ducks with 5.4 rebounds. He's scored 1,070 points in his career and has 531 career rebounds. Singler and the Ducks (23-9) host Iowa (18-16) in the National Invitational Tournament's second round at 4 p.m. Sunday (ESPNU).
"Singler's a good player," Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said before Saturday's practice. "He does a lot of things. He can put it on the deck. He can rebound and lead the break. He's like 6-6. He can shoot 3s. He can pass it and make a play for somebody else. He shoots 90 from the (free-throw) line. He's a really good player."
Singler also is one of the nation's best free-throw shooters. He led the Pac-12 in free-throw percentage at 90.9, which ranks second nationally.

Washington (23-10) flattened Northwestern 76-55 in a second-round matchup on Friday. The Ducks and Huskies are long-time rivals and split their two previous games this year. Iowa has played Washington five times and has won twice. The teams' last meeting was in 1966.
Iowa has beaten Oregon in all five of their meetings, the last coming in 1962.
Iowa's Zach McCabe practices at Matthew Knight Arena at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday, March 17, 2012. Iowa face Oregon in a second round NIT game at 4 p.m. Central Time. (Cliff Jette/The Gazette-KCRG)
