IHSAA reveals boys basketball substate brackets for Class 3A and Class 4A

CEDAR RAPIDS - Getting on a heater at the end of the regular season has worked out very well for the Cedar Rapids Prairie boys basketball team.

The Hawks have won six games in a row and 12 of 13, which allowed them to creep into the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s rankings in Class 4A and get a top seed in their substate.

The IHSAA released postseason brackets for Class 4A and Class 3A Monday. Seventh-ranked Prairie (15-4) is the top seed in Substate 6, receiving a first-round bye.

Also in Subtate 6 is 10th-ranked Bettendorf (15-4), which also gets an opening bye. The other four schools in the substate are North Scott, Davenport Central, Clinton and Davenport West.

Prairie is the only Metro or Iowa City school to get a No. 1 substate seed. Linn-Mar (11-8) is a ‘2’ seed in a substate that includes top-ranked Cedar Falls (19-0).

Iowa City West is a third seed in Substate 3, which has Waukee Northwest and Ankeny as the top two seeds. Dubuque Senior (18-1) is the top seed in Substate 5, which also includes Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Cedar Rapids Washington.

Solon (19-2) earned a No. 1 seed in its Class 3A substate. DeWitt Central and Marion are the second and third seeds, respectively.

Substate 3 is headed by top-seeded Dubuque Wahlert (13-7), with Cedar Rapids Xavier (12-7) the second seed. Decorah (14-5) is a dangerous ‘4’ seed in the substate.

Center Point-Urbana (16-5) is the second seed in Substate 5, behind third-ranked Pella. Mount Vernon (14-5) is a ‘3’ seed in Substate 6, behind second-seeded Nevada and top-seeded Adel-DeSoto-Minburn.

Postseason play in the larger two classes begins Monday, Feb. 23. Substate semifinals in 3A are Feb. 26 and Feb. 27 in 4A.

Substate finals are March 2 in 3A and March 3 in 4A.
