FREMONT, Neb. -- Junior guards Emily Greiner and Micha Mims lit it up from 3-point range this weekend, leading the Mount Mercy women's basketball team to a pair of wins over McPherson (Kan.) and Midland (Neb.) at the Midland Tournament at the Midland Event Center.
The Mustangs posted the second-highest point total in school history in Friday's 108-51 defeat of McPherson. They also set a school record with 17 treys in 27 attempts. Greiner did most of the damage from long range, going 7-of-8 from beyond the arc while pouring in a career-high 24 points. Mims hit four triples during a 15-point night.
Freshman forward Amanda Frost owned the paint, scoring a career-high 22 ints on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor. She also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Mustangs. Sophomore guard Lindsey Reis also reached double figures with 12 points. Junior guard Laura Lippert added eight points, seven boards, and team-high five assists.
Mount Mercy kept it going on Saturday, finishing 14-of-27 from 3-point range in a 90-74 win over host Midland. The Mustangs, who shot better than 50 percent from the field for the second straight contest, avenged a six-point loss to the Warriors at last weekend's Grand View Classic in Des Moines.
Mims tied the school record with eight 3-pointers in 12 attempts during a 28-point outburst. It was a career-high for Mims, who also had six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Greiner had another terrific game, nailing four treys, scoring 16 points, and dealing seven assists. Reis tallied 15 points and six boards, senior guard Kadie Carman 13 points and four rebounds.
Mount Mercy looks to keep it rolling next weekend at the Cornell Classic in Mount Vernon. The Mustangs take on Augsburg (Minn.) on Friday at 8:00 p.m., then the host Rams on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Small Multi-Sport Center.
