CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Junior guards Emily Greiner and Micha Mims combined for 36 points to lead the Mount Mercy women's basketball team to a 72-59 victory over Grand View in their Midwest Collegiate Conference opener on Wednesday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Mustangs, who led from start to finish, got 40 points from their bench, including 20 from Greiner. She has been Mount Mercy's leading scorer in six of 10 games this season, and was just four points shy of her season high, which came in a win over McPherson (Kan.) on Nov 12.
Greiner, the MCC's best free throw shooter, hit a pair of 3-pointers and went 8-for-8 from the foul line on Wednesday night. She leads the league at nearly 92 percent (43-of-47) from the line this season, and is Mount Mercy's leading scorer at 15.8 points per game.
Mims has led the Mustangs in scoring in three of Mount Mercy's other four games this year, and poured in 16 against Grand View. She also finished with seven rebounds and a game-high six assists and four steals.
Freshman forward Amanda Frost came off the bench to score nine points and grab eight boards. Junior guard Ashley Koch, senior forward Tonya Davis, and junior guard Laura Lippert added six points apiece for the Mustangs (5-5, 1-0 MCC).
Jennifer Jorgensen, the leading scorer in the MCC at 19.8 points per contest, poured in a game-high 24 and snagged nine rebounds for the Vikings (3-9, 0-1 MCC). Nicole Wilson hit four 3-pointers during a 14-point night. Danielle Ballard chipped in eight points and 10 boards.
Mount Mercy will face another stiff test this weekend, visiting William Penn for a 1:00 p.m. league showdown at Penn Gym in Oskaloosa. The Lady Statesmen received votes in this week's NAIA Division II Top 25 Coache's Poll.
