Gatens, Hawkeyes bury Hoosiers by 12 (with photo slideshow)

IOWA CITY - For the second straight game Matt Gatens drilled five consecutive 3-pointers. This time, it was enough to help Iowa to a win.
Gatens, a senior from Iowa City, scored a career-best 30 points to lift Iowa past No. 18 Indiana 78-66 today at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Gatens sank four 3-pointers in a five-possession stretch to lift Iowa from a 10-point lead to 19.
Gatens hit five straight against Penn State last Thursday but Iowa lost by five.
Gatens now has 211 3-pointers in his career to move into fourth place. He's three 3-pointers shy of tying Kent McCausland for third place.

Melsahn Basabe scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds to spark Iowa to a 37-26 halftime lead against No. 18 Indiana tonight at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Basabe, a sophomore, also had three blocks in helping spark a 13-1 run and give the Hawkeyes control of the first half. With Iowa leading 18-17 and 8:52 left in the half, Basabe scored five consecutive points to give Iowa a six-point lead. Devyn Marble then hit a pair of shots and was followed by a Josh Oglesby 3-pointer during the run.
Oglesby and Matt Gatens each had eight points for the Hawkeyes (13-13, 5-8 Big Ten). Indiana freshman Cody Zeller led the Hoosiers (20-6, 8-6) with eight points.
Iowa is playing its second straight game without senior point guard Bryce Cartwright, who suffered a high ankle sprain eight days ago. Junior guard Eric May also isn't playing becuae of a back injury.
Iowa has beaten Indiana six of its last seven games at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
