Fields' debut earns weekly honor

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- Mount Mercy's Bria Fields made a successful debut for the women's basketball team last week, averaging 17.7 points and 9.7 rebounds to earn Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honors for Jan. 3.
The junior forward, who shot nearly 53 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line in three games, posted 16 points and nine boards against third-ranked Morningside in her season debut. Fields added 15 points and nine rebounds versus Briar Cliff, then posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 boards at Clarke.
Mount Mercy (7-9, 2-1 MCC) continues league play this week, hosting Waldorf (3-9, 1-1 MCC) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center and traveling to Ashford (3-13, 0-2 MCC) on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tip at Kehl Arena in Clinton.
