TIFFIN — Matt Hoeppner will be the next girls’ basketball coach at Clear Creek Amana, The Gazette learned Tuesday night from a source close to the program.
The hiring is effective pending board approval.
Hoeppner, 42, has spent the last three years at Cedar Rapids Jefferson, where he compiled a 23-46 record, including 8-14 last season.
Before that, he was at West Liberty three years (53-16), at Davenport North for two (26-19), and an assistant at Rock Island (Ill.) for nine.
There will be no rebuild necessary at CCA. The Clippers have enjoyed unprecedented success lately, peaked by a 26-0 campaign in 2023-24 that ended in a Class 4A state championship.
Ranked No. 5 in The Gazette’s preliminary 2025-26 rankings, CCA was 15-8 last year, and returns all five starters, including all-state senior-to-be guards Averie Lower and Lena Evans.
Meanwhile, at Jefferson, the last winning season was in 2009-10.
Three of the J-Hawks’ top five scorers from last season are expected to return. Lillie Spicer, Angeline Troh and Kymara Atwood-Mayes will be juniors next season.
