CEDAR RAPIDS — Caitlynn Daniels, a dynamic point guard from Cedar Rapids Xavier, has committed to play women's basketball at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Daniels announced her decision via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.
A 5-foot-7 junior, Daniels picked UAB over several other Division-I programs.
As a sophomore, she averaged 11.6 points and 5.1 assists per game as Xavier (14-9) reached the Class 4A regional finals, earning second-team all-state honors by the Iowa Press Sports Writers Association.
Daniels was part of Xavier's state-semifinal team as a freshman. She is the younger sister of Zach Daniels, former Cedar Rapids Kennedy and University of Iowa pitcher, now with the Atlanta Braves' minor-league organization.
A member of Conference USA, UAB was 27-7 last season and reached the second round of the WNIT. Daniels will join the Blazers in time for the 2020-21 season.
