CEDAR RAPIDS - There is a new top-ranked boys basketball team in Class 4A.
That would be Cedar Falls, which flip-flopped with Waukee Northwest for the top two spots in the class in the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s poll of the season. CF (6-0) beat Northwest (7-1) at this past Saturday’s Crossover Challenge event in Cedar Rapids, 74-69.
Guard Jaydon Kimbrough scored 36 points in the game for the Tigers, including 23 in the first half.
West Des Moines Dowling (8-0) remains at the third spot in 4A, with Muscatine (6-0) moving up a spot from the first rankings and Ames (7-0) two spots. Ames knocked off seventh-ranked Dubuque Senior (5-1) at the Crossover Challenge, 52-49.
Huxley Ballard (7-0) stays atop Class 3A, followed by Clear Lake (4-0), Cedar Rapids Xavier (6-1), Storm Lake (6-0) and Pella (6-1). Solon (7-0) is seventh.
Xavier lost for the first time this season over the weekend at the Catholic Classic in West Des Moines to Dowling, 56-36.
In Class 2A, the top five remain the same, though there has been some shuffling. Orange City Unity Christian (8-0) is number one, with Treynor (7-0), Iowa City Regina (6-1), Western Christian (6-1) and Carroll Kuemper (6-3) rounding out the top five.
Treynor, Regina and Western all moved up one spot from the first poll, with Kuemper falling from second to fifth after losses in two of its last three games. Union Community (7-1) stays at No. 9, with Cascade (7-1) replacing Mid-Prairie at 10th.
Mid-Prairie (5-1) was beaten over the weekend by Solon, 75-34. Cascade’s lone loss was by three points to Monticello.
There is zero change in Class 1A, with the exception of the final two spots. The top five is Fort Dodge St. Edmond (5-0), Wapsie Valley (8-0), MMCRU (7-0), Burlington Notre Dame (9) and Boyden-Hull (5-1).
Bellevue Marquette comes in sixth, with Bellevue inching up from 10th to ninth. Lynnville-Sully joins the rankings at No. 10.
