IOWA CITY -- Lisa Bluder stands to make more than $3 million, plus incentives, in the next seven seasons as the University of Iowa women's head basketball coach.
In her contract, released by UI to SourceMedia Group News on Monday, Bluder will have a base salary of $393,000 for the 2011-12 season, plus $50,000 in other guaranteed income -- from camps, shoes and apparel.
The base salary, which includes I-Club appearances, television and radio, rises in increments of $17,000 to $19,000 each year, and will stand at $497,000 in 2017-18.
Bluder, 50, received a contract extension last week. The Hawkeyes are coming off their fourth consecutive 20-win season -- they were 22-9, their best record in 15 years.
A Marion native, Bluder is 211-132 in 11 seasons at Iowa. She has a career record of 567-274 in 27 years (she was at St. Ambrose for six years, Drake for 10).
The agreement comes with the following "competitive incentives:"
* If the Hawkeyes have an overall season winning percentage of 65 percent or better, Bluder receives an additional $50,000. If they win the Big Ten regular-season championship, she earns another $50,000. A Big Ten tournament title nets her $25,000.
* An NCAA Tournament appearance is worth $35,000. Bluder earns another $50,000 if the Hawkeyes reach the Sweet Sixteen, another $50,000 if they make the Elite Eight, another $100,000 if they advance to the Final Four, and another $100,000 if they win the national championship.
* A Big Ten coach-of-the-year award is worth $10,000, a national award is worth $25,000.
Academic incentives are as follows:
* An annual (six-year) graduation rate of 70 percent is worth $25,000. An Academic Performance Rate of 950-974 is worth $15,000, 975-999 is worth $30,000 and 1,000-plus is worth $50,000.
Bluder also is likely to receive longevity bonuses:
* If she is the coach on June 30, 2012, she earns $50,000. The rate is $50,000 on the same date in 2013, $60,000 in 2014, $65,000 in 2015 and 2016, and $70,000 in 2017 and 2018.
Ticket revenue bonuses are as follows:
* Bluder will receive a $20,000 bonus if Iowa has a ticket revenue of $175,000 or more, $35,000 if the revenue is $200,000 or better, $50,000 if the revenue is $250,000-plus.
