Bluder: Rogers on shelf this summer
Jeff Linder May. 11, 2011 1:23 pm
IOWA CITY -- Jade Rogers will not participate in the Game Time League.
Nor will she compete when the Iowa women's basketball team takes its version of European Vacation in August.
"She probably won't do anything strenuous this summer," Iowa Coach Lisa Bluder said Wednesday, in reference to Rogers' minor surgery on her knee, performed earlier this spring.
"We would rather hold her out a while than set her back."
Rogers suffered a torn ACL while playing high school ball at Cedar Rapids Kennedy. She was a reserve forward at Iowa as a freshman, playing in 13 games and scoring 21 points.
The Hawkeyes, 22-9 last season, will tour Europe Aug. 8-22 with stops in Prague, Vienna and Paris.
Bluder: Move 'em back
The NCAA is exploring the possibility of moving the women's 3-point line back a foot, to 20 feet 9 inches, the same distance as the men's arc.
"I think it's going to happen," Bluder said. "I haven't heard of any resistance. Everyone is pretty much in agreement to go with the men's line. Most 3-point shots are taken from behind the (deeper) line anyway."
Iowa's Jaime Printy routinely takes aim from 3 or 4 feet behind the men's arc.
"I think moving it back is a good move," Bluder said. "It will clean up the court a little bit."
Bluder is not in favor of instituting the 10-second backcourt rule, something else the NCAA is looking into. The women's game has never used it.
"I think the game is fine without it," she said. "I'm not a fan of adding it, but I really can't give you a good reason why."
