Western Dubuque’s baseball team got a two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning to walk-off Winterset in a Class 3A state tournament quarterfinal Monday night. A 9-6 semifinal win Wednesday night over Sergeant Bluff-Luton was a breeze, at least comparatively.

Iowa City Regina’s softball team showed once again why it can never be counted out, stunning top-ranked Central Springs in a Class 2A state semifinal Wednesday evening, 7-4.

The Independence baseball team popped top-seeded Davenport Assumption in the mouth with a three-run top of the first inning in their Class 3A state tournament semifinal Wednesday night. But the Knights scored the next 13 runs for a 13-3, five-inning victory.
